1954 Bowman Mickey Mantle Cards

This year Bowman got exclusive rights to Mickey Mantle Baseball cards. With no real competition, Bowman took advantage of being the only company with rights to Mickey Mantle! This card is the only official card for Mickey in 1954. On the back of this card there is a brief description of the All-star. The card also gives some highlights of the previous season. His name appears on the back in set on a baseball bat.

Some people call Bowman`s 1954 card set the 'bargain set' of the Fifties. The '54 Mantle card is highly collectible and can acquired for a reasonable market price. Recent years have revealed prototypes for never-released Topps card for Mickey Mantle for 1954, but since it never hit the market, the Bowman has retained it`s value and collectability.

An interesting fact about the 1954 Bowman series is that the cards were numbered by the players' team. Every 16th card featured a player form the same team, and each team had 14 cards. The Bowman series was printed in a rush of production and subsequently there are many stat errors on some of the cards. The Mantle card seems to contain correct information however.
