1959 Topps Mickey Mantle Card

1959 Topps Mickey Mantle Card  In 1959 Mickey appeared on a Topps card with a traditional head shot. Just across his shoulder, lays his signature. In the lower corner is the traditional Yankees emblem. That same year Mick appears on a separate card. That card honors Mickey Mantel as the 1958 AL home run champ. That year Mantle was honored on a Sporting News All Star card. On the card it shows him batting left handed.
A Mint/Near-Mint price point of $300.00-$1,000.00 makes this another attractive buy for those looking for a 1950’s Mickey Mantle card. Copies of the card that are in lesser condition can be had for drastically lower prices, even for as little as $5.00! The wide price range even for the top condition cards is a reflection of the very volatile market for cards at this time. These are excellent conditions for the collector looking to make some classic acquisitions right now. The values will most likely correct themselves and rise sharply in the near future.
Mantle actually had 2 cards in this series. One was his regular issue #10 card and the other was an all star card labeled #564. The bold-looking all star card sported a blue background with a shield shaped photo of Mickey crowned by a federal eagle symbol. Decades later, Topps issued a series of heritage collection card sets and the 1959 set was the first one to be re-issued in this for.
It is important not to confuse a heritage re-issue of this card with the genuine article as they are nothing alike in quality or value. A simple way to distinguish a reprint from an original is that a reprint will contain a copyright stamp. Such marks were not in use at all on cards in 1959.
