The Mantle card #200 of this series carries an impressive book value of $600.00 for Mint condition. This card as well as the #471 card utilized the simulated woodgrain background which would come to be known as a Topps staple in later decades. This was the largest Topps series ever at the time and topped out at 598 regular cards plus several variety cards. It was also the first year that multi-player rookie cards were features. Notable specialty cards from the series included a 10 card Babe Ruth series. These cards commemorated Ruth`s life from boyhood to his farewell retirement speech.
