1968 Topps Mickey Mantle Card

1968 Topps Mickey Mantle Card  By 1968 Topps had caught on to Mickey’s new playing position. The card finally lists him as the first baseman. The card shows Mantle on the field with a blue sky behind him. This same year Mick is on another card with Willie Mays and Harmon Killebrew. One of the final years of the Micky Mantle’s career and his final American League All -star year. This collectible, vintage card makes a swell addition to any card lover’s stash.
This set contained 598 cards again and premeired a new border design. It was a brownish- beige speckled frame and collectors are polarized on their opinion about it. One good aspect of this unusual border is small damage to the edges is concealed and there for the appearance of many of these cards has stayed in better condition. A motivated collector should be able to fine many high grade cards from the series at a low price and still in high condition. Rookies who debuted in this series are Johnny Bench and the legendary Nolan Ryan.
In addition to the Mickey Mantle solo card there is a unique multi-player card which features a group photo of Mickey, Harmon Killebrew, and Willie Mays. This series was also the final season of Mantle’s career, although not his technical final baseball card appearance, as he was featured on in the ’69 series as well. The Mantle card from Topps’ 1968 series has a book value of about $500 for near-mint to mint, but could command higher prices in the right market due to it’s uniqueness.
